Homemade playdough recipe without cream of tartar
Create an easy homemade playdough recipe without cream of tartar. Perfect for hands-on learning and imaginative play with hours of engagement.
Ingredients
- 3 cups plain flour (you may need slightly more to prevent stickiness, depending on your batch)
- 1/3 cup salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 7 drops of food colouring (or natural dyes such as beetroot)
Methods
- In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients (flour and salt) with the vegetable oil.
- In a separate container, mix the natural dyes with the water.
- Gradually add the water mixture to the flour, salt, and oil mixture, about 1/4 cup at a time, stirring with a spoon after each addition.
- Once all the water has been added, knead the dough by hand until it reaches a smooth consistency.
- (Optional) Add cream of tartar to prevent the playdough from becoming too wet and to help the playdough stay fresh for longer with proper storage in the fridge.
Tip #1: Turn this into a fun at-home activity for your child by mixing the dry ingredients together. Add the colouring after the playdough has been fully kneaded.
