Homemade playdough recipe without cream of tartar

Serving Size:
Makes 1 batch
Time:
10 mins
Difficulty:
Easy
  • 3 cups plain flour (you may need slightly more to prevent stickiness, depending on your batch)
  • 1/3 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 7 drops of food colouring (or natural dyes such as beetroot)
  1. In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients (flour and salt) with the vegetable oil.
  2. In a separate container, mix the natural dyes with the water.
  3. Gradually add the water mixture to the flour, salt, and oil mixture, about 1/4 cup at a time, stirring with a spoon after each addition.
  4. Once all the water has been added, knead the dough by hand until it reaches a smooth consistency.
  5. (Optional)  Add cream of tartar to prevent the playdough from becoming too wet and to help the playdough stay fresh for longer with proper storage in the fridge.
